Here we have a vase that I purchased in the late 1980's when I was searching for art pottery at the local markets and antique shops. I got this at a flea market and spent some time trying to figure out who exactly made this. I could never determine the mark, but people who I have spoken to say that it is definitely hand thrown and decorated. It is not a mold cast pot. I have admired it and displayed it for all this time, but I am moving to a much smaller place and some of my larger pot...s have to find new homes. I have shown a few different sides of it - the panels are similar but not identical. I couldn't figure out the mark or whatever it is on the bottom. The glaze is the typical early 20th century "Grueby" matte green on the inside but glossier on the outside. One dealer thought that maybe it was fired too high and the green is a little glossy because of that. That made sense to me since it looks like the glaze ran off the pot and was ground off. I have another green pot from that era that has the same situation. In any event, I am hoping someone out there either knows who made this or loves it as much as I do. The spots that you see are reflections of the chandelier over my head when I was taking the pictures - there are no flaws or defects other than the glaze on the base.
