A nice antique Georgian sampler worked in silk on homespun backing.
Stitched by Mary Clark in 1802. It has a more cheerful verse than is often found on this type of sampler. After 2 alphabets it reads
"Hope deferred maketh the heart
Sick but when the desire cometh
It is the tree of life"

"Pleasure and recreation are really necessary to relax our minds
and bodies from too much labour and constant att...ention but then
they should be such as are innocent as well as diverting"

Sampler dates 1802. Frame much later.
Size of frame approx 13in x 13in (33 x 33cm).
Condition - there are a number of holes/damage and repairs so I am selling as in a distressed, damaged state. It may be possible to improve it but still it displays quite well - see photos or ask questions.
We are happy to combine postage for multiple purchases where possible.
