Only 2, 500 of these beautiful bronze medals were issued between 1961-74 to commemorate the 1798 founding of the Mission San Luis Rey, with it becoming the largest of the California missions by 1830.
The mission is depicted on the front, and the sainted King Louis IX of France is depicted on the reverse as the mission was named in his honor.
