Sonning Vintage Watches Outstanding 1972 (sold 1976) Rolex Oyster GMT Master 1675 Pepsi Full Set Investment WatchThe OverviewI love all the watches in our collection but every now and again we find something super special and this GMT is just such a watch. The Rolex Oyster GMT was launched in 1954 and has become hugely collectable over the years with early examples, the 6542, nudging £100, 000… The 1675 series has one of Rolex longest production runs. Fi...lm fans may know that Pussy Galore wore a GMT in Goldfinger – Pan Am also used the watch for all their pilots. To find an untouched version of the 1675 is wonderful.This example dates from 1972 and was sold in 1976. The solid steel case is in very good condition but show signs of wear with scratching – I’d be happy to send original high resolution pictures if required. The original Mark 2 dial is untouched and we believe the hands are also untouched and is stunning. The Pepsi bezel is again, we believe, original or certainly very old and has aged to a beautiful pink. The plexi-glass lens is again very old and our watchmaker managed to salvage it with a lot of hard and intricate work. The original Rolex signed movement is immaculate and has just been fully serviced by our professional watchmaker. The genuine Rolex Jubilee bracelet dates from 1994 (‘S10’) and the end pieces are 502B and the deployment clasp is 62510H. The bracelet is in good condition but does have a lot of ‘sag’.Extremely rarely we also have the original Rolex Guarantee and Rolex Brochures. The case measures 40mm across, excluding the Rolex signed crown (we believe this is original) and 47mm long including the lugs. The case side, under the ’12’ shows ‘1675’ and the serial number, under the ‘6’, shows ‘3188835’ (we will of course give the buyer the full serial number). The inside case is signed ‘Montres Rolex SA Geneva Switzerland’, ‘Patented Stainless Steel’ and the reference of ‘1675’. The age reference is ‘11.72’ dating it to 1972.The DialThe original Mark 2 dial is untouched and we believe the hands are also untouched and is stunning.
