Up for sale is a timeless stainless steel Rolex Datejust. This style with the classic 36mm Oyster case and engine-turned bezel will never go out of fashion, and this particular example has ...been well cared for and seldom worn.
It has a 257xxxxx serial which dates the watch to the early 1970s; while design elements have changed very little since then, a few subtle touches of the era can be appreciated. The date wheel features open 6's and 9's which I personally find add lots of character to its vintage charm. It also features a "pie pan" dial that is slightly raised, with a stunning silver burst finish. The black stick markers offer a simple and elegant layout. Please see the high resolution photos to get a sense of the uncommonly minty condition of the original dial, which many agree is the biggest factor in determining the value of these vintage Rolexes.
Powered by its original Rolex Caliber 1570 superlative chronometer rated movement. I unfortunately don't have photos of the movement or inside caseback at the time but they are original to the watch, and it was serviced just a few years ago. All functions work as they should. The watch is keeping excellent time with both manual and automatic winding operating very smoothly. Time/date setting is clean and the crown screws down properly, with no signs of poor threading.
The watch case and caseback show only normal signs of slight wear as pictured. It comes on an aftermarket steel jubilee bracelet giving it that classic look, as well as an extremely high quality custom Togo leather strap, both pictured. I ordered this strap to be made specifically for this watch in mind at a cost of over $200; it is made of an Hermes saddle leather with a texture that really makes this watch pop, and features quick release bars for easy changing without scratching the lugs. The strap itself is barely worn, but this kind of leather will develop a beautiful patina over time with use.
Always happy to answer any questions or send additional photos. This is a no reserve auction, which makes me nervous as some "comparable pieces" listed online have terrible refinished dials, blemishes, etc and should not be considered as a realistic price comparison.
Please don't overlook this pristine vintage example and check out my extensive feedback and other pieces.
This will ship carefully packed, insured, and via an expedited service. Bid with confidence and happy watch hunting!
