Vintage Rolex Oyster Perpetual 1952 Everest Pre - Explorer Automatic Watch 6084
Item History & Price
Chance to own a very unique pre-owned 34mm Rolex Oyster Perpetual 6084 from 1952 with a 736xxx serial number. This watch is in overall very good condition considering its age. It was recently serviced by a master watchmaker and is keeping accurate time, running like a champ. The crown is the original, rare, super oyster crown. The dial is original with the rare red OFFICIALLY text and overall looks very go...od. The hands are original as well, but appear to have been relumed at some time in the past. The acrylic crystal is clean with minimal markings. The watch comes on a genuine vintage 1969 Rolex rivet bracelet as seen in the pictures.
What makes this specific piece unique is that it comes with real military provenance. As seen by the engraving on the back of the watch, this watch was gifted to a ranking officer in the Company B of the 6th Armored Cavalry in 1952. Who knows what action or stories it could tell!
In 1953 Sir Edmund Hillary became the first person to summit Mt. Everest with a Rolex strapped to his wrist, now found in the Beyer watch museum in Zurich, there is a great Hodinkee article with many pics.
Also known as the semi bubble back, this oyster 6084, with the exact dial layout, triangular indexes, small applied coronet crown & red officially text give it a ton of appeal. This watch gave birth to the Explorer line. The movement is a Caliber A260 also found in the early Submariners.
