According to 5, 00 Open Salts by Heacock and Johnson, this salt is the same as #1701 in all respects except that it is not marked. They have dated it to 1891. It features 3 stubby legs and some light etchings on the silver. The salt is approx. 1 inch tall and 2 inches wide. It is labeled as rare and unusual. I only found one other like it, also unmarked but in blue. The color on this salt is similar to the standard rusty medium brown glaze found on art pottery of the 1920s. <...br>The overlay on the body of the salt is in excellent condition. There are a couple areas on the interior of the rim where the silver does not lie perfectly flat. Both are on the inside of a curve. Ceramic is undamaged. We always welcomequestions.
