This listing is for an authentic vintage antique farm or ranch tool. This is a single line fence stretcher for barbed wire fences. This stretcher has a wooden handle, cast iron grip mounted on a chain, and a cast iron plate set into the head. Plate is notched on one side. Plate was intended to provide a grip when stretching from a post. Plate is marked "F.J. Townsend" on one side and "Painted Post, NY"&...nbsp; on the other side. Wire Grip is marked "Pat. Feb 26, 83" Stretcher is 36-1/4 in length. Tool is pictured in Smith & Smiths "Collectors Guide for Fencing Tools" as No. 340. I beleive the paper on one side was an inventory number or price tag. Tool is in good used condition. Please refer to "Condition" above and photographs for more information.. This fencing tool is absolutely old and authentic and sells with no reserve.
