Item History & Price
Thislisting is for a lovely quality SOLID GOLD watch by LONGINES, a highly reveredSwiss watch maker that has a long history going back to the 19thCentury. Longines products have always been engineered to a very high standardand their back catalogue of models remains of great interest to collectors. This piece dates directly to 1958 (the year NASA was created!) when it wasassayed in LONDON and is powered by a lovely quality Longines in-house manual 12.68zmovement which is currently in good working condition, keeping time to within approximately2.5 to 3 minutes per day, suggesting a service soon will be beneficial. Simple, elegant and minimalist, this is a restrained piece for the discerningindividual who prefers discreet luxury rather than loud statement pieces. Please note it has a wonderful and wholly original gentle TROPICAL patina thatwarmly permeates the backdrop of the dial. At 34mms without the crown this canbe considered a MIDSIZE piece these days and is a welcome change from the hugebloated lumps of silver floating around the mainstream market at the minute. Longineshave perfected the graceful allure of ‘less is more’ and this timepiece speaksdirectly to that kind of designer thought process. It is fitted with a BRANDNEW lovely quality dark CHESTNUT toned 18mm Denver Leather open ended strap(for SOLID LUGS) and comes in a period LONGINES watch box that it came to usin. With no service history available we recommend regular servicing tomaintain good function and protect your investment. Don’t miss it! The dial issigned for LONGINES at the top and shows their classic logo underneath. At thevery bottom it says SWISS MADE. Please note the beautiful solid gold DAUPHINEhands and the eye catching military style SUBSIDIARY REGISTER at the 6 positionwhich has a real presence. There is a mixture of Arabic numbers and goldtriangulated hour batons. It ishallmarked inside for 9 Carat gold and also shows DS&S as the case makers –this stands for D Shackelton and Sons, famous case makers who have produced forall the greats including Rolex, Omega and Le Coultre. It is also hallmarked forBAUME who was the importer for Longines watches in the UK at the time althoughwe know them better as being the other half of Mercier. There is a lightengraving on the back which adds intriguing history to the piece but can alsobe removed for any new future personalization. It measures: 34mms without the crown Condition : Other than somelight spots of patina and ageing to the dial which reassures us of originalitythere is very little to report. The crystal is superb and the case only showsminimal age related wear with a couple of marks down the side – this is solidgold so all can be polished out. However we like to present and sell the watch aswe find it. Please also bear in mind that the photos are 1mm macro and show alot of detail you wouldn’t otherwise see with the naked eye.
