THANK YOU for considering our Waltham 23 Jewel "Vanguard" Up-Down Wind Indicator watch. Here are the details:Movement: Serial No. 23170153, circa 1919, 16 size, open face, 23 jewels, adjusted to temperature and 5 positions, Model 1908, Grade Vanguard Up-Down Indicator, left-side lever set, raised gold jewel settings, huge all-gold balance screws, bridge nickel plate, stem wind, lever set railroad-grade movement. This fine antique Vanguard Indicator model watch movement is in excellent ...working order, with a dead flat and true balance wheel motion that has a fine, wide arc and strong, steady beat. The movement is a smooth wind, starts right up on my 8th wind with no twist, and lever sets as designed. The movement holds time well within 30 seconds per week face-up after careful and prolonged hand-regulating! Appearance-wise this fine old Vanguard movement is looking great, with 100% oxide-free signed winding wheels and click gear, sharply detailed, bright and clean bridge nickel plates with all of the original gilt inlaid engraving paint still intact, clean correct patented Ohlson 1908 screw micrometer regulator needle and whip, spotless looking down inside, and reeling and rocking holding railroad time!Dial: Is its correct original "Waltham" model, single sunk enamel with bold black Blindman-size Arabic numerals and in near mint condition, with just one little scratch in the indicator register and one short hairline at the very bottom only!!Hands: Original finish (not doctored up aftermarket) RR-bold blue matching whip hands with the "club" second hand, correct for the Vanguard Indicator watch, and showing 99% of their fine original factory bluing!!Case: crisp and beautiful Keystone J. Boss "Mainliner" style, 20 year Deco engraved yellow gold fill, pendant set and slots left and right, screw-back-and-bezel, fancy dress or railroad case! It features a small rectangular blank cartouche area at the bottom in back for a monogram, framed with fancy floral patterns and topped with bold wide-narrow Deco pinstriping, boldly reeded perimeters and the railroad-approved wide neck, giant crown and sturdy original bow. This beautiful looking case is in fully serviceable condition. I have restored and detailed this case right down to the threads and the crystal so you get the best looking and working case possible! The back and bezel thread up easily, screw on and off smoothly, and both seat tight. The correct original crown's fluting is deep and defined for a tight, sure grip, and it turns freely but does not extract, so only a lever-set movement will work inside. The bow is correct and matching, shows zero brass or damage, and pivots freely. The crystal is a near-new thick beveled mineral glass with no issues. The case does show minimal wear, including very light and faint fine to micro-fine scratching, no marrings or doodlings, zero brass anywhere near the roundhouse, and absolutely, positively no sign of any dents, dings, dimples or depressions!!!I've owned this fine timepiece for 20-odd years and it has always run accurately and never failed to please and delight!!
