Rare Running WWII Waltham AN 5740 GCT Master Navigation Pocket Watch
Item History & Price
I found this watch in my late father's (born 1923) desk draw along with his military and navigation items. From 1942 to 1946, my father was a ship communications officer, SM3c. In the 1960s, in the US Power Squadron, he attained the Navigator title and taught courses. However, I do not know why or when he got this military navigation watch. We should have talked more.
I wound ...the watch and, after four days non-stop, it is still accurate. It is in good running condition.
The case and bow is made out of a base metal with a shiny chrome finish. The plastic crystal is in excellent clear shape. The dial is black with white indicators and hands. Case diameter is approximately 52mm x 14mm and weighs approximately 102.4 grams. The case back is stamped with the following: AN 5740, MFR'S PART NO.1622-S-24-C, CONTR.NO.W-11-107ac-581, SER.NO.AF-44-2300, WALTHAM.
A Dycem bottle opener worked great in removing the screw-on case back and crystal front.
Stamped on the inside of the back case is the following: Keystone, Base Metal, 58124. Stamped on the jewel movement is the following: 22 jewels, 16-A, Waltham U.S.A, DJ.TEMP, 3 POS., 31789388.
To be shipped by USPS Priority Mail, tracked and fully insured, in a small flat rate box.

Thank you for looking.
