The diary translation was printed in 1944 so soldiers of the 27th Infantry could read how determined the Japanese were, how they would fight to the end and never surrender.
The Diary belonged to Taroa Kawaguchi of the Nakahara Unit 43...rd. Division Hospital located on Saipan.The diary covers June 11 1944 to July 7th 1944 when the owner killed himself with honor for the Emperor of Japan.The diary tells of the daily care of the Japanese wounded, Fighting on the Island and the overtaking of the island of Saipan by US forces in 1944. Great account of Island fighting from the view of a Japanese Soldier.

This item is from a collection of WW2 items brought back from the Pacific Theater by Sgt. Harry.L. Wriner who served with the 73rd Material Squadron 303rd. Air Service Group 20th. Air Force. Sgt. Wriner served on Saipan which is part of the Mariana Islands in the Pacific. from 1944 to 1946.
