A truly charming antique Italian Victorian Etruscan 18K gold micro mosaic floral love birds memento mori locket pendant necklace, dating to circa 1870.This beautiful and very romantic necklace has a central micro mosaic plaque with two wonderful love birds/doves with wings spread staring into each other's eyes as roses and other flowers tumble around them. The plaque is framed inside a solid 18K yellow gold surround with a circle of raised gold beads around the edge, the reverse with ...a memento mori compartment and all attached via a large floral gold bail to a removable solid 9K yellow gold chain-STUNNING! The pendant is unmarked and tests for 18K gold, the contemporary chain has English hallmarks including '375' for 9K gold.The chain is about 16 1/2 inches long. The pendant measures approximately 47mm high with the bail and about 32mm across, the micro mosaic plaque is about 20mm across. The compartment holds a 17mm wide memento. The necklace has a total weight of approximately 14.4 grams.The pendant is in general good condition and displays very well on the neck. A few tesseracts are missing, only noticed when looking hard with the naked eye. The raised beads have dents and dings mostly to the reverse and sides. The compartment cover has been replaced with plastic. The chain is in excellent condition and the clasp closes securely.
