ANTIQUE NATIVE AMERICAN BEADED GUN BELT (Woodlands, Bandolier, Holster, Ojibwa)

This is a fine antique late 19th or very early 20th Century beaded holster and belt with a typical Woodlands trailing floral beadwork on hide with missing silk trim. Ojibwa? is a likely guess. It was bought at Glendinings auction room, London (later taken over by Bonhams) in 1962 by the late collector Ian West. Steel beads and an array of micro seed beads in greasy colors adorn the piece. Buttons hold the holster on and one side is not beaded perhaps for a missing cartridge secti...on. The holster would accommodate an 11" pistol while the flap is buttoned.A very evocative artifact indeed!
