PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL (2003) DS Advance 1 - Sht
Item History & Price
This is a vintage original 27x40 in. US double-sided advance one-sheet poster from the classic pirate-themed fantasy action/adventure franchise, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL, released in 2003 by Walt Disney Pictures and directed by Gore Verbinski. This swash-buckling tale follows the quest of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), a savvy pirate, and Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), a resourceful blacksmith, as they search for Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightle...y). Elizabeth, the daughter of the governor and the love of Will's life, has been kidnapped by the feared Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush). Little do they know, but the fierce and clever Barbossa has been cursed. He, along with his large crew, are under an ancient curse, doomed for eternity to neither live, nor die. That is, unless a blood sacrifice is made.
This is the film's double-sided advance one-sheet poster, which was issued before the film was released in theaters and was intended for display inside of a light box. The image features a pirate skeleton at the wheel of a ship during a storm as the heavy rain sprays across the scene. The printing quality is really outstanding and this one-sheet has an almost 3D appearance when seen in person. Unrestored and rolled as originally issued, this vintage original double-sided advance one-sheet is in fine+ condition with several or less pinholes in each corner; a 1 in. diagonal crease on the top left corner; a few small tears on the right edge with random signs of wear along the edges.
Having decided that pirates were the eighteenth century equivalent of rock stars, Johnny Depp's characterization of Jack Sparrow was inspired by close observation of his friend Keith Richards, though he emphasized in interviews that it was not an impersonation. Richards himself appears in the third film of the series as none other than Jack Sparrow's father. Captain Jack is portrayed as having gold teeth in the film, and they were Depp's idea. He predicted that the executives would want fewer gold teeth and told his dentist to implant more gold teeth as a bargaining tool, but Sparrow's final number of gold teeth in the film was what Depp had envisioned all along.
