Great antique Swatow pewter tea caddy with a sliding lid. With a rectangular shape, it is decorated on the top of the lid with a stamped flower panel which is set into the lid. The sides are beautifully engraved with flowers, fruit, a basket of fruit and leaves. The letters THA are also engraved - presumably for “tea”. The base has a stamped character mark. This is likely to date to the later 19th century - a nice antique piece - & was probably made in the city of Swatow, a seacoas...t town that was one of the major pewter producing centers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.Condition - good antique condition. There are minor knocks and marks. There are scratches where the lid cover slides vertically off the tea caddy box.
