We are pleased to offer for your considerationAntique Chinese Pictorial Kesi Braided Blue Silk Manchu Chaofu Court Formal Luxury Robe Textile from the Late QING Dynastyfeatures: absolutely gorgeous Chaofu side-fastening robe made of nicely patterned deep blue silk with beautifully shaped pictorial kesi woven braids created unique design on front and back: around the neck, along the fastening on the chest and along the bottom... and sides. Extremely large wide sleeves have amazing embroidered bands cuffs using gold metal threads couching and fine satin petite stitch techniques. This type of sleeves is traditionally embroidered on the back half of the cuff band, when the rest being plain. (The Women tended to fold their arms in front at waist level with their hands through the sleeves, the embroidery showing down the front).The fastening featured heavy carved brass buttons and long silk loops.The blue woven silk field is covered with traditional Chinese pattern depicting flying bats - Taoist Zen objectsThe lining features red patterned silk.BLUE was the QING dynasty official Color. Yellow was considered to be the most auspicious shade, and was reserved for the royal family only. Minor princes or noblemen were permitted to wear blue or, a blue fabric indicated the wearer was a court official. Officials who attended Qing dynasty ceremonies were expected to dress in a particular way. Formal robes were designed in the traditional style of the ruling Manchu people, and referenced their nomadic tradition.
