This is an amazing board game created by David Spangler in 1968. The game delves in to incarnation and the five initiations of Alice Bailey's teachings. It was self-published. The game is complete. The box has condition issues- there is tape on corners, mildewed areas, and a few tears. The colors and graphics are still bright.I reached out to Lorian, Mr. Spangler's current organization to comfirm this was indeed his game. Initiation: Game of Ancient Mysteries is a board game I designed and produced back in 1968. At the time, I was working with a group of people who were studying Alice Bailey's writings. They had hired me to help them and to use my particular attunement to the subtle worlds to help clarify some of the material they were reading. I've been a collector and player of board games all my life, and as I was looking for a fun way to introduce and teach some of Bailey's concepts, I decided that creating a board game about incarnation and the five initiations she discusses in her books might be a way to do so. I designed this game and made about five hand-made copies which I used in workshops with this group and, as word spread, with others who were interested. The game proved popular at the time, which led to my receiving some financial backing to produce printed copies. I worked with a graphic designer and a printer in what has now become "Silicon Valley", and we eventually did a print run of about 1000 copies. Over the next couple of years, many were sold or given away. Then, in 1970, when I moved from the San Francisco area to Scotland where I took up residence as a co-director of the spiritual community of Findhorn, I sold the remaining inventory to a spiritual group in Los Angeles who wanted to market the game to their constituency. What happened to it after that, I don't know. ...it's an interesting artifact of a moment in my career when I was experimenting with board games as a way of teaching abstract spiritual concepts.
