Petain, Philippe. Francais, souviens-toi! (People of France, Remember!). France: N.P., 1940. French flyer dated 10 days after the establishment of Vichy France and the appointment of Marshall Petain as Premier. Petain's message laments the French defeat by Nazi Germany and places the blame on France's relaxed attitude; "Our defeat came from our relaxation...the spirit of pleasure outweighed the spirit of sacrifice...we wanted to spare the effort, we now encounter misfortune." Broadside, 26x20 cm..., printed in blue ink with blue and red border. Slight toning and a few small chips to edges. Near Fine.  [676]
