Sometimeprior to 1883 he along with David Bridges he was granted a patent for a planethat was most likely inspired by a patent granted to M....B.Tidey in 1857. Thebasic design was a wood body with a razee back and an adjustable metallicthroat insert. The planes were of good design and well-made and were offered tothe public on a 30 day free trial, money back guarantee. The Gage Tool Companywas sold in 1917 to Philip Leavens, who incorporated it and sold it to theStanley Company in 1919. Stanley continued to make the Stanley-Gage planesthrough 1934. This is one of the planes made priorto the company being sold to Stanley and is in excellent condition. This planeis 10” long and 3-1/8” wide. The cutter is 2-1/4” wide and is stamped Gage ToolCo. Vineland NJ. It is stamped with the Gage name on the toe of the plane andwith the No. 4-1/2 on the heel. The plane shows use as is expected of a100 year old plane but has no breaks to the metal parts or damage to thewood body, just a couple of usage scratches on base. The front knob is perfectand the tote is good and solid – not broken as is often the case due to thescrews holding the metal plate on the top of the tote. Most of the japanning remains on the metalparts. Sharp cutter in ready to usecondition – takes wide see thru shavings – see photo. All in all thisis an excellent example of a very rare plane that you don't see come on themarket very often, especially in this condition.INSURANCE IS INCLUDED IN SHIPPING QUOTEAFTERTHE SALE PLEASE CONTACT ME WITH ANY QUESTIONS AS I WILL ALWAYS STRIVE TO KEEPMY CUSTOMERS FULLY SATISFIEDI am a retiredshop teacher, woodworker, and tool collector for over 25 years.
