This is an estate find, carefully wrapped in plastic, boxed and way back in an attic cubbyhole. Age is unknown, just a piece of tape on the plastic noting Auntie and a name I can't make it and also noted 'very old'. The only markings I see are Germany in large letters faintly visible on the base underside and Germany with the little figures on the metal top. Please look at photos carefully and read Description - this is the first time I've ever come across one of thes...e and it is sold in 'as is' condition. Measurements are 14" across the wooden base and about 9 1/2" in total height. The opening in the tree holder top is 2 1/8" in diameter. The holder section lifts off a metal post and is a heavy cast type metal whereas the top of the stand isn't as heavy. This top is free to lift off the base; all the nails or screws that would have held it in places are missing. When I first checked this out and gave the key a few winds, a little music briefly played but would not do so on any attempts afterward. Winder feels good, not like a problem there. There are two levers that come out. One will stop the internal flap part that turns and the other separates the gears that turn the music cylinder. Although there are slots in the metal top like the levers would protrude out of them, the metal rim of the top is lifted a little so that the levers could be moved even if it was secured in place and the slots are narrowed because of this. There seem also to be too many holes in the top piece. The center one for the post and another for where the winder key would be used to wind correspond but then there is another hole that has no use looking at the inner works. Three smaller holes, two of which are a little out of round are near each other also on the top - all are within a rectangle that is a little cleaner than the rest as if there had been a plaque or something there originally. A couple of the rim holes look a little stretched but other than what's already described and needing some cleaning/shining up, the metal top is good. The heavy holder section is good - there is just some gummy green material inside apparently put there to help hold a tree in place. This is like the stuff florists use and could be cleaned out without too much trouble if so desired. On the internals, the musical apparatus looks good and levers move well - unknown what needs done for the music to work. It also appears that the center post should revolve and so turn the tree holder if working right. Wooden base has some finish wear which mainly would be hidden with the metal top secured in place.
