This porcelain tea set was produced in Trenton, New Jersey by Lenox between 1906 and 1930. It was produced especially for Tiffany & Company. The pattern is named “Virginian”. Each piece is numbered G87 in gold. There are 2 cups without the Tiffany & Co. but they are undoubtedly part of the set. The pot measures 9 inches from spout to handle, is 6 inches high and holds 6 cups of tea. It has a separate insert for straining loose tea leaves. The c...ream pitcher is 4 inches high, the sugar bowl is 5 inches across the handles and 3 ½ inches high. A saucer measures 5 ½ inches in diameter and the cup is 2 inches high and a diameter of 3 ¼ inches. There are 17 pieces in total, counting the insert and lids. Each piece is decorated with medallions containing a lady of the Colonial Period having a cup of tea. Three ladies are dressed in blue and three in pink polka dots. The opposite medallion pictures a manor house. Baskets of hand painted roses are joined together by swags of raised turquoise enamel beads. Bands of embossed gilding and trimming of shiny gold enhance each piece. The details are delightful. It is wonderful to find a complete set.
