Welcome to our auction! Many of you knowus as longtime collectors and sellers of antique and vintage Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Easter holiday memorabilia, paper ephemera, antique dollsand toys and fine jewelry. I am just mesmerized by this adorable, authentic, RARE, early Kathe Kruse doll, whowas made in Germany during the beginning years of manufacture: 1910 to 1929!Her years of ...manufacture—along with her wide hips – makes this sweetheart Kathe Kruse Doll Number One.
I have named her Elsa. She stands 17 ½” tall and has all the features you wouldlike to see in an early Kathe Kruse. One foot is marked Germany, one foot hasnumbers. Her chin has two seams, and the back of her neck has three seams. Shehas sewn fingers and toes, with seams in the center of her palms. Herhand-painted features on her muslin head are extremely well-done, and the clothbody is in superb condition without any leakage whatsoever. Interesting to noteis according to my research, this doll was stuffed with reindeer hair!
I do believe she is dressed in her original clothing, consisting of a sweet lace-trimmeddress, a lace-trimmed slip, and lace-trimmed panties. She wears knitted socksand retains one knitted shoe. Her bonnet matches her dress and is lace-trimmedas well.
This magnificent, desirable, early doll has had exactly two owners in herlifetime. Elsa belonged to the great-grandmother of the lady who wishes to findher a new home.
Her exact condition is as follows: her neck has a little bit of give. Her nosehas a rub and her chin has a little bit of darkening. Her painted hair has a fewtiny skips. The clothing is in exceptional condition without tears or repairs.
According to noted doll expert and author, Jan Foulke, the Kathe Kruse dollfactory was founded in 1910 in Donauworth, Germany. This factory, which grewfrom the vision of one young mother looking for a doll for her child, is stillin business producing high-quality dolls that are favorites with collectors.
