This listing is for a rare item in the Chanticleer pattern by Copeland Spode - it is marked as shown. The mark dates the item to 1891-1900+In other words, this item is over 100 years old.
A large Lidded Angular Ginger Jar or Urn. The item is pre-owned and it is presumably used but my guess is that it was mostly displayed in the home, not used per se.
The condition is very good but here is a more detailed description for your convenience. Don't skip viewing the photos as I will be... showing some of theescribed here.When you remove the lid and look closely at the top rim of the jar you will notice a tight hairline (ageline) and possibly more tight hairlines - not sure how to otherwise describe these issues. I am pretty sure that they are there due to a person hitting the rim with the rim of the lid when attempting to put the lid on the jar. The lid does not have any hairlines or issues though.
The crackled overall pattern is part of the surface pattern design - it appears black to me; not blue, not green. I could be wrong but it seems to be the same color used for the outline of the flowers in the design. The colors are hand applied under glaze. They will not wash or fade off.
