Averill/Madame Hendren 1917 Antique WWI Doughboy Soldier 15” Composition Doll

This World War 1 “Doughboy” Soldier was produced by Madame Hendren/Georgene Averill in about 1917. The 15” tall doll has composition head and lower arms; the rest is cloth. He is fully articulated (disc joints on the limbs), and has painted heavily molded hair and blue painted eyes. His original outfit includes a felt jacket with three gold “buttons” and an oilcloth belt, felt Jodhpur pants, and oilcloth wraps around the lower legs to suggest boots. The pant...s are tagged MADAME HENDREN//CHARACTER DOLL. This doll is in very good condition, from a smoke-free home. The hair and hands have paint wear and there is a craze line between the eyes. The paint is completely original. The outfit has several small holes, though most are in the back. The feet have holes that expose some of the excelsior stuffing.
