Gem & Diamond Testing and Grading
all of the diamonds and gemstones we have for sale have been thoroughly tested examined and graded by me personally and I have an impeccable record of providing accurate, honest and thorough grading of Diamonds and Gemstones. all of our Diamonds are graded to GIA standards and for colour they are graded against a GIA Certified Master SetI have many years experience in grading diamonds and each single Diamond is graded methodically
A FEW NOTES ON DIAMOND GRADING PROCESS
* we only use GIA clarity grades FL, IF, VVS1, VVS2, VS1, VS2, SI1, SI2, I1, I2, I3we don't use "SI3" which is a ridiculous concept dreamed up by EGL topass off I1 diamonds as cleaner stones.
* All our diamonds are graded for colour using a GIA certified Master Set andall borderline colours are graded down.
* we only describe UV Fluorescence for Diamonds with "Blue" Fluorescence anyDiamonds that fluoresce colours other than blue will say none
* for cut grading we only apply this to "round brilliant" diamonds all other shapeswill be marked as N/A we provide an opinion based on the diamond as a wholetaking into account symmetry, polish and dimensions to give an opinion on the diamonds quality of cut
in general this is the rule we go by:
excellent - a stone that is beautifully cut with an excellent polish, dimensions and symmetry that provides excellent light return
very good - a stone that on the whole is very well cut with very good light return and is well proportioned
Good - a stone that doesn't have perfect symmetry or doesn't have a fantastic polish but is still a decent quality stone
Fair - a stone that doesn't have fantastic light return and is lacking in cutting quality
Poor - a stone that is badly cut with poor brilliance that may be a bit wonky
For Precious gemstones Ie. (Corundum and Emerald)
all our coloured stones are tested and examined in my fully equipped Gem Labthey are Identified using standard Gemological equipment and are then thoroughly examined under the microscope if one of our stones says "untreated" or "none" in the description this means that every part of the stone has been inspected very closely under high magnification using multiple light sources and there is no observable evidence thatthe stone has been subjected to any treatment including heat, diffusion etc.
I only ever describe a precious stone as untreated if under the microscope it has unaltered natural inclusionsie. unbroken rutile silk, unaltered fingerprint inclusions etc. and it shows no signs at all of heat treatment at allie. dotted rutile, tension halos, burned or altered crystal inclusions etc.
I am very experienced and do my very best to only ever provide accurate information that I am fully confident in.
for coloured gemstone colour grading I generally use the description that best describes the colour with the dominant colour being last Ie. Light Greenish Blue this will describe a stone that has a light tone and is predominantly blue in colour with a green undertone.
generally the colour of our photos is pretty accurate and they will provide you with an accurate image of the actual stone that is for sale
for coloured gemstone clarity we use GIA clarity types
and to simplify we abbreviate to flawless, VVS, VS, SI, Included
again our pictures generally give a pretty accurate portrayal of the gemstones clarity
