Walter, Jr. owned his own Real Estate Brokerage andInsurance firm in Glen Rock.“THEROCK”Within the Borough of Glen Rock, a great block of stone stands on Rock Avenue near the Main Line Station of theErie Railroad. Tradition says that this rock was a meeting place for theIndians who called it Pamacka puka. It was also known by the early settlers asthe Big Rock at Small Lots. It was mentioned as a landmark in 1687 when aPatent was granted for 5, 320 acres of land upon the second attempt to settlelands west of the Saddle River. Since the early times many of the land recordsof this vicinity refer to the stone as one of the points in determining thelocation of the property they cover. On August 26, 1912, as a result of theefforts of a number of citizens who appreciated its historical value, a deedwas executed transferring the site of the rock from the South RidgewoodImprovement Company and from Mr. and Mrs. John F Walter, to the Boroughof Glen Rock. Since that date the rock has been surrounded by a concrete walkand has been placed in a condition that guarantees its preservation for many yearsto come.
