Up for sale is a Rare Antique Golf Club, Very Good Used Condition As Shown, Please see photos for details, Could use a little cleaning, Would need to be re-gripped, This is how the story goes... The club belonged to my grandfather who won it in a poker game, My grandfather was an avid golfer and loved the clubhouse activities as most golfers do as well, As we know Tom Stewart made fantastic hand forged clubs back in the day and made them for a fair amount of the top players of the day,... My grandfather was involved in a large pot in which he raised and was then re-raised by another player which took it to the set limits of the game, My grandfather wanted to raise back and all the players agreed to let him raise, The other player called, According to my grandfather the player that called had an Ace high straight but my grandfather had a full house, Queens full of Deuces, I heard this story many times growing up, So the player of the losing hand did not have enough cash to cover his call, Starting to sound like a movie but my grandfather knew of this club that the other player owned and he offered it in order to cover his debt and my grandfather accepted it, I had never heard of Sandy Herd before my grandfather telling this story, Apparently he was a great golfer that my grandfather admired, He believed that this club belonged to Sandy Herd, Enough so that he accepted it as payment and something of value, I do not know the location of or the name of the club where this all took place, I just have the fond memories of hearing stories like this while my father, uncles & grandfather played cards back when I was a kid, From what I could find out the time frame for this club makes sense, Sandy Herd was a Scottish professional golfer from St. Andrews, He won the Open Championship in 1902, Unfortunately I have no rock solid proof or provenance to back up my story other than the club bearing the initials S.H. and the story itself, Mashie Niblick #8, I do not feel comfortable stating my grandfather's name, Several members of my family were/are collectors such as myself and I sell some of these family items from time to time, Interesting story of an antique well made golf club if nothing else!
