This awesome rose bowl shaped piece was most likely made in Bohemia between 1890 and about 1920. The shape is wider and squatter than most traditional rose bowls and there is a skirt of petal shaped fe...et at the base.
The reason I am calling it Spiced Rubina is because the red color is almost iridescent. True ruby glass has gold powder in it to give the richness of that color and this piece actually looks like it could have gold powder in it too. The red goes down the sides and fades into clear at the very bottom. The petal feet are also clear glass. The body of the glass has a thick twisting rib pattern in it.
I have seen pieces just like this attributed to Steuben Glass, but I was unable to prove it in my research. It reminds me of some Baccarat pieces in the Rose Tiente line. The quality of the glass is very fine, but it has no makers marks.
This piece measures 4" high, 4" wide at mouth, 6" at widest, and the feet are 1/2" high and just under 4" in diameter. There are 8 petals. Each applied petal has a pressed sunburst pattern to it. This bowl is in Fantastic Condition! No chips, cracks or flea bites! Even the ring of feet is perfect!
