ANTIQUE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS SIGNAL Or STARTING CANNON – MARKED W. R. A CO.
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:3699957 |
Antique Signal or Starter Cannon made by the WinchesterRepeating Arms Company, and is marked “W.R.A. Co., Trademark, Registered in theUSA”. To operate the breech would be opened, a standard 10-gauge blank shotgunshell would be inserted, the trigger pulled, and the loud blast would be usedto start a race or event. As far as we can tell, although we’ve never fired it, it appears to be in good op...erating condition. The cannon weights nearly 15 lbs, has some rust spots on the silver tone cast steel, and appearsnever to have been painted. Our research suggests that this may be a Model 1898, and circa 1898, but not later than the early 20th century. Found in a Philadelphia area estate. Please checkour photos closely and inquire if you have any questions. On Aug-20-19 at 07:14:42 PDT, seller added the following information:
Input from eBay-er: 1903 was first year Winchester made cannons. The first ones had outside barrel diameter of only 1" during first year & thenwent to the larger barrel. The early cannons were all flat block lacker. Thesewheels are not Winchester wheels.
Another eBay-er noted: Someone painted it silver they were black originally and the wheels are home made and not originals.
