Antique Qing Chinese Export Yixing Stoneware & Pewter Mount Dragon Teapot Weihai
Item History & Price
IN LINE WITH EBAY GTC POLICIES, THIS ITEM MAY BE ENDED AT ANY TIME.
This antique teapot tray dates to the late 19th century (Qing Dynasty.) There are no China or Made in China marks. It has a makers makers for Don Chang Ze(n) Wai Hai. This is a relatively rare maker. I take Wai Hai to be an alternative alphabetic spelling of Weihei a major centre for this design.
The teapot is made of black (very dark grey) Yixing stoneware with pewter mounts in the form of drago...ns. There are bras details such as the dragon eyes.
The teapot has a patina consistent with age and much usage. With tea-stains and stirring marks inside and normal handling wear to the outside.
The lid is part stoneware with a pewter surround. The stoneware interior of the lid is cracked and there is some loss to the pewter rim. However the pewter surround is holding the whole lid securely together. The cracks / loss are not visible when the lid is on.
The pewter mounts are in good antique condition.
The exterior of the teapot is quite finely made.
There is no knob on the lid (by design). There are 2 hoop handles attached the main body of the pot.
It would have been part of a Yixing pewter tea set made for the European (mainly British) export market.
This is a rare and beautiful original antique object.
The teapot measures 15cm (6") in diameter. 21cm (8") acros the spout. It stands 10cm (4") tall. It weighs 1005g(2lbs 3ozs)
Please study the photos.
