Antique Brass Inlaid Mahogany Writing Slope With Inkwells & Secret Draw

A good example of a late 19th century mahogany writing slope with original leather slope cover, inkwells and secret draw. This example has inlaid brass strips to the top and front fascia. It measures approx 35cm wide, 23cm deep and 15cm tall. The secret compartment is activated by lifting the far left separator to the right of the inkwell on the left side as you open the box. Once activated it springs open a hidden compartment with two secret draws which can be seen in the pictures. The box com...es with a key but this may not be the original as it does not operate the mechanism. The box was discovered with a receipt to the Agricultural Benevolent Institution for 10 shillings and sixpence. It a is in generally good original condition but does have a few small cosmetic issue which I have sought to point out. All of these issues can be observed in the last six pictures.The leather cover to the slope does have a couple of splits to the centre outer edges. The exterior and interior wood has the usual minor marks and scratches and there are a few minor areas of wear to the exterior veneer on the top. Contrary to one of the pictures there is screw missing from the latching mechanism (one shows it with the other without, but it is confirmed as missing).
