This is an antique pepper grinder which I would date 1900-1914 and which I believe is probably Continental. It comes from the estate of a 95-year-old Jewish refugee into England (named Schevez), suggesting it was probably made in Germany or Austria. The letters 'L.L.' can be seen to the metal grinding plate underneath (shown pic #11). I am unsure which wood has been used but would suggest Pear or another fruit wood. The top metal handle shows patination which I have not tried to clean, ...but is known to be brass because of the exposed screw seen in pic #7. The shape of the handle suggests an acorn to the centre and is very Continental/ Germanic in style. The Treen element of this piece shows bobbin turning to a shape that is not dissimilar to a hand grenade; part of the reason why it would suggest itself as being made before the horror of the First World War was known or understood.Shown assembled and taken apart; in full functioning order.Very desirable antique piece
