Thislisting is for a RARE STUNNING 19th Century Mt. Washington Glass Works/New England Glass Co. Rose Amber/Amberina Cruet/Cologne Bottle in the"Inverted Thumbprint" pattern, Fourth quarter 19th century. Both Mt. Washington and the New England Glass Company made high quality amberina cruets in this style with rich coloring with decorated polychrome hand painted enamel and it's very hard to tell the difference but we believe this one to be made by Mt. Washington. The article ...size of 6" by 3 1/2"and the glass form/shape and faceted topper matches Article Number 500 Cologne/Vinegar pictured in the Mt. Washington catalog, 1897-1898. Regardless of which glass company produced this gorgeous piece, this is an incredibly rare cruet/decanter. I have never seen any cruet this remarkable.Reference: Mt. Washington Glass Works and Its Successors, the Pairoint Companies, Volume I - by Kenneth Wilson page 304.The Vinegar Cruet/Cologne Bottle Decanter/Cruet has beautiful coloration in the glass in shades of dark mahogany red shading to amber and features a scalloped, crimped upper tri corner rim with an amber glass applied handle and polished pontil. Matching original amber glass stopper with facet cut. The piece has a squatty bulbous body, tapering to tall slenderneck, Inverted Thumbprint Pattern at Bottom, decorated withpolychrome enameled blue and pink forget-me-not flowers, leaves and goldgilding. St. Aubin, Jr. Condition: No issues other than a few very minor surface scratches towards bottom of cruet I noticed upon close inspection in daylight and with a magnifying loupe. There is minor surface wear as expected from wear. There is also a very slight flake at the bottom of the original stopper. I have included photos taken in different lighting for your review.Please understand that any objects requiring thehand of man in their making will show imperfections that naturally occur duringthe making even when they are brand new.
