During the early 1900s, many art pottery companies flourished in Ohio because of readily available clays and ample transportation to market. One such well-known company active during this time was the Weller pottery. Located in the Zanesville area of the state, they produce many lines, designs and shapes which have become extremely collectible today. Once such pottery line introduced in 1915 was called Brighton. Subject matter of this design primarily consisted of multicolo...red glossy glazed bird figures. They were produced as a counterpart to the earth tone matte glazes of the Muskota examples produced at the same time. Examples of this line seem to be scarce or on the market than their Muskota counterparts. I believe this flower frog depicts a hungry kingfisher bird staring down at his potential meal in the bowl he would normally sit in. It stands just under 6” tall with the base measuring 3 5/8” by 2 3/4”. Thorough examination reveals no chips, cracks, damage or repairs to this figurine. I see no calcium residue around the base from sitting for long periods of time in unclean water serving as a flower frog. An excellent example of 1915 arts and crafts pottery! Please view all pictures as they are considered part of the description. After listing this item in a buy it now format, I realized I had missed a small chip on one of the openings where the flowers would be held. I have added an additional picture of this flaw. Subsequently, I have changed this to an auction format at a much lower starting price. The item is sold as is. Please check back to my listings often as I will be posting numerous fine examples of glass, pottery and porcelain in the near future. Thank you.
