Authentic Historical Signed Autographed Letter, 1954
Preface:
I’ve been collecting Frank Sinatra (autographs & memorabilia) since 1980 and have amassed one of (if not THE) largest Collection of GENUINE Frank Sinatra Signed artifacts in the world. I’m also considered one of the foremost experts on his Authentic Signature. In nearly four decades of... collecting, I have never seen an authentically signed Sinatra letter that is so intimate and reveals a troubled man trying to manage his egocentrism and insecurities. Which in the end may have been the “driver” of his mega success.
It’s the Summer of 1954. Frank Sinatra has just finished “From Here to Eternity” and after a spiral downward in his career in the early 1950s, is about to realize a major boost in his career and an unprecedented ascension into the greatest entertainer of the 20th century. In the Summer 1954 Frank Sinatra was also married to the “love of his life”, Ava Gardner. But, just One Month before his wrote this letter, Ava Gardner filed for divorced and Mr Sinatra according to most accounts was utterly devastated. And of course the overwhelming history of his ties to the mob, especially during the 1950s and 60s.
It was during his tumultuous relationship with Gardner that biographers attribute his most self-destructive and reckless period, resulting in Mr Sinatra having a number of confrontations. In a recently surfaced extraordinary letter from 1954, Frank Sinatra discusses his “bad behavior”. Reading this letter puts you at the scene, witnessing his anxiety and a glimpse of a volatile temperament and hence the risk one would take by crossing him.. We just acquired this museum grade historical letter.
This rarity of this letter is one, that Frank Sinatra Signed it authentically himself, not a secretary as with most letters that have surfaced. And two, the intimate detail and peek into the private, often troubled life and volatile personality of this iconic entertainer. Very few, if any authentically signed letters that have surfaced in the past 38 years I’ve been collecting Frank Sinatra (autographs & memorabilia) have been so intimate, revealing a troubled man trying to manage his egocentrism and insecurities. Which in the end may have been the “driver” of his mega success. Incredible, intriguing, so personal, and apparently being sued. Letter seems to makes a subtle threat to someone accusing him of “Bad behavior”… * See enlargeable image above

Despite his "alleged acts of bad behavior" at London's Milroy Club, Sinatra affirms that "everything is going extremely well for me"
Scarce TLS signed “Frank, ” one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, July 28, 1954. Letter to John Harding, in full: "Delayed answering your letter because I hadn't heard about the arrival of the records from Dick Jones until a few days ago. At which time he brought them out here to California. There're [sic] wonderful, and thank you very much. I had a letter from Harry Myers, questioning me on my alleged acts of bad behavior entered into the case by John Mills. I hadn't answered Harry because frankly, I didn't know how to explain it to him. I told him once or twice, in my letters, that I feel the issue at hand is whether or not I was a member of the Millroy Club [sic] and whether I misbehaved at the Millroy Club, etc., etc., etc. I think everything else is completely irrelevant, and has no bearing on the basic matter. Please convey these thoughts to Harry, and tell him I suggest that his line of attack follow that and that alone and we should be all right. By the way, when does it go to trial? Everything is going extremely well for me. I feel wonderful. I hope you and Muriel are both in fine fettle. Don't work too hard on your trip, and when the hell are you coming over here? Bill and Cuddles send their best. Take care." A postscript reads: "Keep me informed as to when John Mills goes to New York. I have a big surprise for him."
In very good to fine condition, with scattered light creasing, and several extra horizontal folds. Harding was the general manager of the National Sporting Club in London, and also acted as an agent in the UK for numerous Hollywood movie stars, such as Sinatra, Ava Gardner, Tony Curtis, and Janet Leigh.
Note: Also, the letter references another historical event in Mr Sinatra’s life Where he mentions “Dick Jones".
At the end of 1952 Capital Records dropped Frank Sinatra because his career had spiraled down and Capital did not intend on renewing their contract with him. It was Dick Jones (who played piano at Frank and Ava’s wedding) that was instrumental in getting Capital to reconsider, which they did in April 1953. And, they would eventually be very glad they did
