Lovely quality genuine 134 year old silver example, an uncommon tall slender shape with a sprung hinged silver lid and with a serrated silver striker plate on the base. It all-over decorated with attractive foliate engraving and there are no added personal engraved monograms in the cartouche. Attached is a short double-stranded silver rope-twist chain with ball finials and with a silver St Christoper medallion on the end.Measurements Measures approx. 1.5 inches (38mm) x 0.85 inches (21mm) and is 0.35 inches (9mm) deep, (excluding chain)Date English antique Victorian solid sterling silver with a full set of English silver hallmarks for Birmingham 1885, (date letter "l"). Nice matching marks on box and lid and includes the silver duty stamp of Queen Victoria. No marks on the chain but definitely antique sterling silver and the medallion is hallmarked "Silver". Maker Silversmiths initials unclear "- O".
Condition Good condition, with no repairs, definitely no wear holes and no nasty knocks or dents, just a couple of tiny little surface dents/bruises, really nothing much. The sprung lid hinge works perfectly opening and closing tightly and securely and there are no added engraved monograms or crests. The attached double stranded chain and St Christopher medallion are all in good condition and all solid sterling silver. A good early year date too.
