FEATURED: An original autograph by one of the great American comic geniuses of the Twentieth Century, W.C. FIELDS, with 'Best Wishes, W.C. Fields', written in his iconic handwriting in black ink on green paper, and a closeup of him taken from his 1934 movie 'It's a Gift', both under gorgeous triple mats and framed professionally. We feel sure the 'best wishes' was written as if in his sarcastic drawl that he was known for. W.C. Fields, a legend in Hollywood as well as... American comedy history, created one of the greatest comic characters in the movies, acting as an egotistical drunk, a man who hated dogs, kids and good women, and eventually became known as that character, although people who were close to him said he was not like his movie and radio personna. He was a famous actor, juggler, writer who started out in Vaudeville, then found more fame in a Broadway musical 'Poppy' and went on to star in over 40 films, was a radio show celebrity as well, was beloved by Surrealists for his absurbness and painted by Surrealists Max Ernst and Rene Magritte, even was included on the Beatles front cover of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band! He was known for his drawl, asides comments, outfits, a continuous cigar in his hand or mouth, and an eloquent vocabulary, and was a huge star and celebrity for decades. Anyone involved with Hollywood movie history or American comedy history would love to own this, as his movies are still studied and beloved for his talents and character studies. A great item to have in your movie room or library, and a fascinating character to watch.
