For Your Consideration A Rare Antique Chinese Handpainted and Signed Calligraphy 阴阳 Fan - 清朝 Qing Era - Late 19th / Early 20th Century
Description This fan dates to the late 19th century or very early 20th century.
The fan is made of black and red lacquered bamboo sticks and a double paper leaf. The guardsticks are incised with floral or plant motives and are inlaid with handpainted cattle bone plaques. The front le...af is handpainted with bamboo and presumably have 2 poems written above the painting in black ink - both, the painting and 2 poems are signed. The back shows more calligraphy executed in black ink, presumably another poem. This is also signed. The rivet is made of horn and bears the "yin and yang" (阴阳) symbol on either side.
The fan measures ca. 11.75" long and ca. 20" wide at its widest point. The measurements for this fan in centimeters are ca. 29 cm long and 51 cm wide.
The fan presents reasonably well, but it has flaws as follows: The fan has a small paper loss near the bottom edge and three small paper losses on the backing leaf (see photos). It also has a repaired tear in the leaf and several repaired folds (barely visible)(see photos - I have shown the back and the front of the repaired tear).
Postage Packaging and postage to the UK via REGISTERED AND TRACKED AIRMAIL USING THE POST OFFICE will cost £13.80, within Europe via Airmail £14.20 (15.50 Euro), overseas via Airmail £15.10 (ca. US$18.50).
