Antique SAMUEL LEAR, England - Majolica - Pond Lily & Rope Pattern - 6.75" Tall Juice or Water Pitcher, Circa 1870
We are pleased to offer from our personal collection this antique majolica pitcher made by Samuel Lear. The pitcher features the popular Pond Lily and Rope pattern on a stippled white background in colors of turquoise, yellow, maroon, amber on the outside with a pinkish lavender interior and brown handle and base. Handsome bulbous body with a circular rope tied "bun...dled" neck and scalloped rim. This pitcher is a nice cabinet size piece and presents very well. The only marks we found was a painted "Z" or "2" on the underside.

Measurements: The pitcher stands approximately 6.75" in height. It measures approximately 7" from the front of the pitcher to the back of the handle. Side to side, the pitcher measures approximately 6" across in diameter. The opening at the top measures approximately 3" in diameter and the base 3-5/8" in diameter. The pitcher weighs approximately 1 lbs., 9 ounces. All measurements are approximate, but close.
Condition: We carefully examined this item. Normal crazing is noted throughout the exterior and interior. A couple of production faults to the yellow pond lily flowers on both sides that were ground down by the manufacturer is also noted (see photographs). A small outside chip noted to the spout and small piece missing under the foot of the pitcher that does not appear the outside of the foot rim (see photographs). Several glaze flakes noted to the yellow petals, buds and leaves. NO Major Cracks, Chips, Repairs or Restorations were noted. Overall, the pitcher is in great shape for its age and most of the issues appear to be minor for early majolica ware. Please take the time to carefully examine all the photographs for more details and to ascertain your acceptance of its condition.
