A good period work that is signed lower left " ? Priebe 1929". There may have been an initial at one time in front of the name however there appears to have been a small old repair in the lower corner rendering this now illegible. There is a further dedication inscription to the reverse. Rudolf Priebe was a German marine painter who studied at The School of Art in Wroclaw under Professors Arnold Busch and Eduard Kaempffer. He later attended The Munich Academy of Fine Art and later lived at Hamburg.
Age- 1929Size- 13.25 by 16.5 inches approx (335 x 420 mm) including frame, canvas 10.25 by 13.75 inches approxMedium- Oils on canvas
Frame- Later wooden frame, some knocks, offered free with the painting.Condition- Generally good, we would be happy to hang this as found. Some varnish browning and a small old repair to the lower left hand corner. Some thumb tack holes to the top and bottom margins where the canvas was originally attached to the artist's easel.
Signature- Lower left.
