Offered for auction is a running 1872 Waltham18 size, 11 jewel, grade Wm. Ellery, model 1857, open face configured, gilt finish, adjusted, key wind and set pocket watch. The watch was just completely disassembled, inspected, ultrasonically cleaned and lubricated, with a new mainspring installed and is regulated to keep excellent time with a great balance swing. The watch is complete and all movement numbers match. The movement is housed in a heavy triple hi...nged Dueber silverine case. It is in good condition with some light scratches, dings and nicks and the usual marks at the opening tabs. The bezel and back covers snap closed and all of the hinges are in good condition. The bow stays where it is placed. The glass crystal is clean and clear. The watch key winds and sets smoothly and correctly with the supplied number 5 key (see pictures). The railroad track dial is in good condition with a light hairline from center hole to seconds bit and some light scratches. The spade hands are straight and blued. The pictures show the great presentation and cleanliness of the gilt plates. It is a "slow" train movement that runs at 16, 200 bph. The top plate us signed "Wm. Ellery" and "Foggs Patent". Fogg's patent refers to the unscrewing pinion on the center wheel that spins loose when a mainspring breaks avoiding damage. The movement serial number is 603361, the serial number on the case is 1007227. Pocket Watch Database describes this movement as being manufactured in between February and June 1, 1872 in a run of 1000 movements, model 1857 and Wm. Ellery grade.
