Awhile back I was collecting memorabilia from Los Angeles' Restaurant Row on La Cienega Blvd. thru West Hollywood and Beverly Hills. At that time I collected this interesting pair: a souvenir book from the Turnabout Theatre at 716 N. La Cienega Blvd, and a program from July of 1944.
The theater featured Harry Burnett's Yale Puppeteers, listed as "America's foremost Marionette company" on one stage, and live performers on an opposite stage. The audience would pivot to wat...ch the alternating performances, hence the name of the theater. In the 90's I saw performances in this space - then an ordinary theater - and now it appears to be an art gallery.
Fascinating details of Los Angeles history here, including guest artist Elsa Lanchester, aka The Bride of Frankenstein. An omission in the program indicates she was expecting to be in the upcoming film "Son of Lassie, " reprising her role in the series, but she was not in the final film.
Thanks for looking - any questions please ask!
