Wooden Carved Sculpture.
Fabulous detail (especially on the faces) on this piece with 6 interlocking figures carrying various items.
This is in the style of a Makonde `Tree of Life`/`Family Tree` carving, a form which originated among the Makonde peo...ple of Tanzania and Mozambique. In recent times this style has become popular and has attracted African carvers who are not themselves Makonde.
Can`t imagine the work that went into this!
It measures 8" in height and nearly 4.5" at the base.
Weighs 777g.
In very good condition overall, no damage that I can see, but that said it is a very detailed piece so quite difficult to be 100% sure but I`ve had a good look.
There are a few small lighter areas. In the second picture there is a lighter area near the middle - the area is smooth so its not damage, its just lighter.
