Substantial mid 19th century cut throat razor 6.5" long. The notched blade is a little over 3" long and more than 6/8" wide.
Unusual decoration to the spine.
The tang stamped with a star logo & JH and:
"JOHN HEIFFOR3 PARADISE SQUARE SHEFFIELD"
John Heiffor is first recorded as a razor manufacturer in 1815. The business moved to the Paradise Square address around 1850. This razor dat...es to around this period.
The original black scales are horn and in good condition.
The blade is particularly heavy (75.3 grams) and has a decorated spine. It has areas of tarnish and needs honing.
It comes in a coffin type case, not original, but of the period.
A large and unusual mid 19th century example by a well regarded manufacturer.
