Antique Royal Scots Fusiliers Silver And Wood Cane Swanking Stick, Crop Et Al
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:378481 | Country/Region of Manufacture: United Kingdom |
The silver handle (top) has seen some wear but is sound considering its age. A thistle ...and royal crest are engraved in bas relief in the silver handle and no engraving on the silver keeper (end). The top lettering is "Royal Scots Fusiliers" and it has the Scots Fusiliers motto in Latin, "Nemo me impune lacessit.", (No one harasses me with impunity.). This was originally represented by the thistle itself but by extension now refers to the Scottish regiments. The shaft is lightweight but durable balsam wood or possibly rattan (most of the ones you find will be bamboo or leather, so that makes this one even more unique. It has been in my British antique collection for over 20 years!). Dimensions are listed below.
You would have trouble finding one like this anywhere unless you raid your dad's or grandad's attic, so good luck bidding.
