Up for auction we have an exceptional Antique Boston & Sandwich Glass Co. whale oil lamp in the “Star & Punty” pattern.
Note: Has the proper glass wafer as should be expected for Boston Sandwich Glass Oil Lamps in this pattern.
This whale oil lamp was made by Boston & Sandwich Glass Company in 2 sizes... 9" & 11". This is the larger of the two, which is more scarce & more valuable and very heavy.
It measures 4 1/4” across the bottom ...and stands 11” tall.
In Very good condition with a few very minor nips roughness on the foot base edge which is common with flint glass.
FYI: Just a few years ago, a pair of these same lamps in this pattern & clear glass (as shown) would auction for over a thousand dollars at top auction houses like Skinners, Christies and Eldreds. Prices have recently soften a bit, but this is still a very rare original whale oil lamp and very good investment. As we all know...like property values... rare antiques can be cyclical in nature, so don't miss out now when prices do eventually bounce back. It's a great buying opportunity.
It dates circa 1850.
