Huge, gorgeous, VERY RARE & ornate American sterling silver centerpiece bowl - Circa 1915
The bottom bears the Gorham RI hallmarks of a lion, anchor and 'G', also the pattern number 'A9444' and 'STERLING'
The wide, circular, turned over rim is very ornate, done in pierced, open-work technique and deeply hand-chased in repousse technique with very elaborate designs of scrolling leaves, flower blossoms and baskets of plenty - same work done around the wide, round base.
The i...nserted bowl and frog grill are done in silver plate - both however are hallmarked with the Gorham mark and the same pattern number as the sterling bowl 'A9444' so both are ORIGINAL to the piece and made together
A standard size 'Avian' water bottle is pictured to get a scale of the piece's size
A similar centerpiece was sold in Sotheby's 'Important Americana' sale in Jan. 2008
Excellent condition with no dents, dings, losses or repairs - please examine all detailed pictures and do not hesitate to ask for more if needed
It measures an imposing 51 cm in diameter (just over 20") - the silver alone without the inner bowl and grill weighs 3450 grams (121.6 standard oz!!) net sterling silver weight - with the inserts, the weight is just over 5 kg
