A very nice early crank type doorbell in perfect working condition. A single turn of the crank, in either direction, will produce ONE loud ring. The bell is an improvement over the 1860 Taylor and very similar to the 1872 Corbin. The maker's name is not on the bell. The bell has its original finish that is in great condition considering it's age. The crank and back plate have been... refinished and are ready to be hung on your door. Crank type doorbells are easy to install and, except for the mounting screws, only require a single small hole through the door.
The 4 1/2" diameter bell is made of brass The back plate is made of cast iron. The attractive crank is made of brass and is about 4" across. The bell will fit a door up to 2 1/4" thick.
Crank type doorbells are one of the earliest types of doorbell and are especially novel with a crank being used to ring the bell.
