...r />Recently we purchased a large quantity of 1800's Inverted Show Globes from a collector. These are unusually large display bottles filled with seeds and they sat on a large pharmacy cabinet in a St. Louis area drug store. These globes sit with the cork on the bottom and the large glass base up so the contents within are viewable. They were hand blown just perfectly so that the contents inside wouldn't be misrepresented. This size of jar is very rare to come by, let alone 10 of them! Most of the bottles we have encountered over the years are commonly 8" tall and even those are hard to come by. Owning one of these hand blown show globes from the 1800's with its original cork and contents is a real rarity!
Dimensions: 12" tall, 4 1/2" diameter of the footed base, and 4" diameter around the globe.
Apothecary bottles such as these were used in pharmacies to house seeds, medicinal herbs, powders etc. Aside from being displayed in pharmacies, these inverted show globes were also used at county fairs and in science labs to display seeds, grains, etc. These jars are so rare to come by because they were typically used until they were broken. So finding them without a chip or nick is amazing for any collector.
These are not only Antique Apothecary Bottles, but very LARGE and HARD TO FIND bottles in excellent, crystal clear condition. Enjoy.
